Colonoscopy Diet - Here's the Facts

Colonoscopy Diet

If you are about to have a Colonoscopy done you will want to make sure you are eating the right things so you are best prepared for it. This is going to be very critical. Changes need to be made several days before you have the Colonoscopy performed. There are specific foods you can eat and certain foods you will want to stay away from. The goal of a Colonoscopy diet is to make sure your bowels are as clean and empty as they can before you have the procedure done.

What are some of the healthy foods you will want to eat?

If you like eating lots of dense foods then you will have to cut those out of your diet. This needs to be done several days before you have a Colonoscopy done. What you want to focus on instead are light foods. Here are some foods you can eat a few days before you go in for a colonoscopy.

Light meats that you will not have a problem digesting such as fish and chicken that are skinless
Different types of potatoes that do not include the skin (baked)
Light cheeses, preferably small portions
Eggs are a healthy light food you can eat (boiled)
Light soups with plenty of vegetables in it (preferably non processed)

You will want to stop consuming foods that are solid altogether about two days before you are to have a Colonoscopy. What you can do is eat a healthy breakfast that is light a day before the process is to be performed. For example, eat a piece of wheat toast and a boiled egg. After you do this do not consume any solid foods at all. You will also want to drink plenty of fluids(mainly water) in order to ensure you stay hydrated. Here are some of the fluids you should drink as a part of a Colonoscopy diet.
Distilled or purified water
Plain tea
Natural fruit juices that have been blended
Soup broth
Ginger ale
Foods that you will want to stay away from
You will want to stay away from foods that have a lot of fiber contained within them. You will not want to drink any beverage that is dark. The reason for this is because these have a habit of sticking to the walls of the digestive tract and this makes it tough to differentiate from the blood. Here are some other foods to avoid:

Any type of read meat, rice, nuts and certain vegetables
Diary products and other milk based fluids
Certain fruits and puddings
Pasta that is whole grain
Specific cereals, bran cereal, and seeds
Any drink that is colored, especially if it is red or purple
Dark colored jello
When the day comes for you to get a colonoscopy done, you will want to make sure you keep drinking lots of clear fluids. You want to keep yourself hydrated before you are to get the exam done. The only thing is you will not want to drink any fluids a few hours before you are to get the Colonoscopy done.

What to do once you have had the Colonoscopy done
A Colonoscopy diet is very tough on a persons body and the actual Colonoscopy is tough as well. You need to make sure before you have the procedure done that you watch out for negative signs. Once the process is done you can feel good that your colon is healthier and you made it through the process.
